On March 31st,2015, former Black Panther and incarcerated activist,
Mumia Abu-Jamal had blacked-out due to diabetic shock. The outspoken and
well known activist, had been complaining of dizziness and severe skin
problems to staff since February of 2015. The police and authorities had
failed to inform the friends and family of Mumia and have kept very
tight-lipped about the condition of the inmate. The family was finally
allowed access but only granted one visit per week. Upon visiting Mumia,
friends and family said that he looked as if he had aged and lost
weight. It's also been said that he was in pain and visibly shakey,
Once again, this is another story that seems to evade most mainstream
media sources.
Mumia Abu-Jamal was sentenced to death in 1982, for the killing of a
police officer. The activist has always maintained his innocence and
through massive outcry from major celebrities and supporter in his
defense had circumvented the death sentence to a life in prison. The
outspoken activist was a radio host before his incarceration and
continued to keep in contact with his supporters and spoke on political
events through pre-recorded messages viaNoelle Hanrahan and the Prison Radio organization. More
recently, Mumia had spoken through a recording to Goodard College. This
sparked political lawmakers to pass laws to make it more difficult for
prisoners to be heard from prisons. Mumia, recently has filed to counter
the law that would limit incarcerated prisoners free speech.
The images recently surfaced, showing very weak and frail inmate and
activist whom many have considered as a Civil Rights political prisoner,
have sparked protesters and supporters to storm the District Attorney's
office in Philadelphia for his access to basic medical care from a
doctor of his own choosing and for his medical records to be released to
an attorney. It is obvious that many are siding with the narrative that
there is a political will to silence Mumia's voice indefinitely.
